Question #20
What is your professional opinion on mask mandates?
Doyle Costello District #1
I will follow the guidelines of the AAP as I believe they are the professionals and they have the interest of all children. Based on current information, my opinion is that mask mandates are not effective. Schools should work with students to ensure that those who choose to wear a mask are not bullied in any way.
Keith S. Gryboski District #1
I follow what the State requires. I am not a health expert. From what teachers have told me, masks impede the ability for students to learn. For this reason, I am not in favor of masks. But I am not a health expert.
Elizabeth Moffly District #2
They are ineffective and carry germs.
Sarah Shad Johnson District #2
We should follow the guidance of the health experts, the CDC and SCDHEC.
Seana J. Flynn District #2
They are a MUST!

Everyone must play a role to combat pandemics, and masks are an important part of that equation. We should take guidance from professionals like the CDC and do our part to keep our children and our educators safe.
Courtney Waters District #4
I don't have much of an opinion. When we didn't know much about covid or these new strands, it was important to do everything we could. Now, in an endemic status, people should choose.
Kevin D Hollinshead District #4
Have no opinion whatever the CDC recommend
Vivian S Pettigrew District #5
My professional opinion on mask mandates would be determined on CDC guidance for the public and health saftey for schools.
Melissa Couture District #5
I'm not a medical professional. I didn't care for them but my kids wore their masks when required.

We have to ensure our students and staff are safe. I don’t foresee masks being required in the same way that they were previously, but I would not be afraid to be the voice demanding safety if necessary.
Jennifer Mieras District #7

In my opinion this should be an individual choice, however whatever is the best for the entire then wear the mask.
It is my opinion that each person would use discretion in protecting themselves and others rather it is mask or social distancing.
I believe it should be one’s choice considering others safety if not their own.
Darlene Dunmeyer District #8
My responses of "no" to previous questions about ESSER, health, retirement and meeting with CCEA require additional information in order to make a sound decision. I cannot in good conscience take a stance without having all of the details prompting the questions.
Dr. Carol Tempel District #9
If the state and federal agencies recommend masking for public health, then I think we should comply with the recommendations. I wear my mask in large groups and I’m considerate of others who are wearing their masks. I want to avoid COVID.
