Question #13
Have you read a teacher contract with CCSD? If, yes what would you change about the contract?
Doyle Costello District #1
I have not read a teacher contract with the CCSD.
Keith S. Gryboski District #1
No
Elizabeth Moffly District #2
I have read the one page agreement and see no need to change at this time.
Sarah Shad Johnson District #2
No, I actually have not read a teacher contract yet. I have read the contracts of a superintendent, senior cabinet members, and consultants - all which I received through a Freedom of Information Act request. I would be interested to see a standard teacher contract and hear what teachers think should be changed.
Seana J. Flynn District #2
I have; I believe that contracts should be school specific. They should include the location and salary and salaries should be negotiable.

Yes, I supervised teachers for 15 years and read hundreds of them. The biggest thing I initially can suggest is through the budgetary process to perhaps look at lengthening the number of days of contractual agreement with appropriate compensation afforded. I believe many non-instructional tasks and trainings should be moved to periods of time when teachers, while under contract, can address these items.
Sydney van Bulck District #7
Not only have I read it, but I have signed it 12 times. It is not a contract. It is a one way binding document that is only beneficial to the district. If I had the power to do so, I would work with the district to make it a true contract that specified compensation, location, and had some means to release yourself from it.
Jennifer Mieras District #7
Yes. Prior to asking teachers to sign it, I suggest updating the contract to include the salary, intended role, and location. It is important that teachers and administrators understand that some changes may need to be made to ensure all schools are fully staffed - but any changes should be communicated to teachers and administrators in an advanced, timely manner. Benefits should also be disclosed in the contract so that educators and support staff can understand their total compensation package.
Joy Brown District #7
Teacher contracts should be specific and they should not be made to sign them before their jobs are secured. How can we ask a person to sign a contract without knowing the parameters?

Dr. Carol Tempel District #9
Yes, I have read through the 2022-23 CCSD contract. It’s important to treat teachers as professionals. I would like to see clearer expectations for where the job will be and anticipated salary and benefits; until the date of those elements are revealed teachers should not be subject to having their certificate suspended or revoked if they sign the contract. Expectations for resignations should have policies that are the same for the superintendent, central staff, and school personnel.
